## Verdict

GMKtec EVO-X2 is a relevant Strix Halo alternative for large local models. Geekom A9 Mega remains our preference, but EVO-X2 should be on the shortlist when its configuration offers a meaningful saving for the same intended workload.

This researched assessment uses published specifications. It does not claim a first-hand laboratory test; the Testbench score is an editorial rating, not a measurement.

## Running large local models on the EVO-X2

EVO-X2 is offered with Ryzen AI Max+ 395 and high-capacity onboard memory. That gives it a different model-fit proposition from an HX-tier desktop. Verify backend support, available GPU memory and the chosen quantisation before interpreting a model name as a performance claim.

## Fan noise under sustained load

Fan behaviour is important when the system sits beside you for a long inference run. A brief benchmark does not describe a whole working day. We do not state an acoustic figure or rank it against A9 Mega without equivalent measurements.

## Memory allocation between CPU and GPU

Installed memory is shared between the system and integrated graphics. Reserving more for the GPU leaves less for other tasks; it does not create new physical memory. Use the amount reported by the model runner to plan model weights and context.

## Ports and networking

Check that the selected variant supports the network and storage connections you require. A local single-user assistant may need little beyond a reliable Ethernet link. A machine serving multiple clients or retrieving datasets over a fast network has different needs.
