How to record a Microsoft Teams meeting

In short

In a supported Teams meeting, open More actions, choose Record and transcribe, then start recording. Whether you can do this depends on your licence, organisation’s policy and meeting role; participants are notified when recording begins.

How to record a Teams meeting

Join the meeting, open More actions and select Record and transcribe → Start recording. Confirm the prompt. Use the same menu to stop recording. Check the meeting chat after processing and play a short section to verify the saved audio.

Who can record in Teams?

Access depends on the organiser’s settings, eligible licensing and administrator policy. Guests or people from another organisation may not have meeting-recording permission. If the option is absent, ask the organiser or IT administrator to check the role and policy rather than treating it as a broken microphone.

Where Teams recordings are saved

Teams stores recordings in OneDrive or SharePoint according to the meeting type. The meeting chat or channel provides the practical route to the finished recording. Download and sharing permissions, as well as expiry settings, may be controlled by the organisation.

Getting a transcript

Use Record and transcribe to start a supported live transcript and confirm the spoken language. If an approved external tool is needed, obtain the audio through the permitted export route. Our preferred general note workflow is Notta, but organisational data rules take precedence over a personal product preference.
