Mini PC vs Mac mini for AI

In short

Choose a mini PC for a Windows or Linux workflow and a Mac mini for software built around macOS and Apple silicon. Our preferred Windows/Linux shortlist starts with Geekom, but compatibility should determine the platform.

Which runs local AI better?

Neither category has one universal winner. Apple silicon commonly uses Metal and MLX; AMD systems use supported graphics or Ryzen AI backends. Match model and context. A result for one Mac mini generation does not describe every current model.

Memory and price

Compare capacity at purchase, especially for onboard memory. The M4 models in older comparisons are a specific reference, not the whole current range. Budget for model weights and context rather than comparing entry prices alone.

Software support

Choose the environment supporting your task with least friction. A9 Max is our preferred general desktop; A9 Mega is our choice for larger shared-memory models. Mac mini is more relevant where the required application explicitly targets Apple silicon.
